Double Act

Chairing post-show talks and panel discussions that give unmissable insights to audiences is my favourite thing to do. I have a wide variety of events coming up for plays and musicals across London and beyond.

For my first post-show Q&A of the year, I’m delighted to return to London’s Lion & Unicorn Theatre for a brand-new play about modern masculinity, Double Act, written by Nick Hyde and directed by Jef Hall-Flavin.

A subtle and moving exploration of masculinity, Double Act is a thoughtful new play full of tenderness and wit.

In this funny and moving battle of wits between one man’s thoughts on his last day alive, classic clown meets urban angst in Pierrot’s unexpected journey from London to the cliffs of Beachy Head. It’s a beautifully honest glimpse into destructive self-talk and the redemptive power of listening.

Double Act is directed by Jef Hall-Flavin, an award-winning artist with 25 years of experience making work all over the world. Across his distinguished career, Jef has received praise from The Washington Post, Boston Globe and the New Zealand Herald.

Jef will be working alongside Nick Hyde, a hugely talented young playwright and actor. Nick’s work deals with fraught, complex issues with a rare levity and insight. Double Act is his first full-length play.

The company also features actor Oliver Maynard. The play is produced by Robbie Nestor and stage-managed by Ryan Mulgrew.

Following the 90-minute performance on Wednesday 10 January 2024, I’ll chair a discussion with the Double Act cast and creatives about the themes in the play and bringing the show to life.

(Content advisory: This play deals with themes of suicide and depression and contains very strong language.)
