SUMMARY:The Smile of Her
DESCRIPTION:Academy Award\, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Christine Lahti makes her London stage debut in her acclaimed autobiographical play The Smile of Her at Marylebone Theatre. \n“What happens when the smile starts to crack?” \nHow well do we ever really know our parents? As children\, they seem larger than life. As adults\, we begin to see them differently. \nIn this funny\, tender and deeply moving solo performance\, Christine Lahti looks back on the childhood that shaped her\, revisiting family memories with humour\, honesty and extraordinary compassion. As long-held certainties begin to unravel\, she discovers that growing up isn’t just about understanding ourselves. It’s about finally understanding the people who raised us. \nAt once intimate and universal\, The Smile of Her is a celebration of mothers and daughters\, family\, forgiveness and the stories that echo across generations. \nPerformed by Lahti herself\, this unforgettable new play is a moving reminder that sometimes the greatest act of love is learning to see another person in all their humanity. \nFollowing the 90-minute performance at 7pm on Thursday 23 July 2026\, I’ll talk to Christine Lahti about the process of writing and performing The Smile of Her and why she wanted to bring the play to London. Any questions? Join us! \nBook tickets for The Smile of Her + post-show Q&A

SUMMARY:Live from the Warehouse
DESCRIPTION:How far will two teenage boys go to be seen online in our algorithmically-determined attention economy? After acclaim in India\, Gen-Z dark comic thriller Live from the Warehouse\, written and directed by Shashwat Srivastava\, gets its London premiere at the White Bear Theatre.  \nLive from the Warehouse is a gripping two-hander about boyhood\, betrayal\, and the algorithmic hunger for attention. Equal parts raw\, funny\, and haunting — it asks: What are we willing to lose to be seen? \nTwo seventeen-year-old boys\, classmates and dreamers\, break into an abandoned warehouse after a prank reel involving a stolen gun spins out of control. Chased by the police\, hunted by a school drug dealer\, and suffocating under the pressure to be someone\, they turn the camera on themselves. \nInside this decaying space\, they confront fear\, ambition\, friendship\, and failure — reimagining their future as actors\, singers\, podcasters… fugitives. As night deepens\, so does their obsession: if they can’t escape their reality\, maybe they can frame it. \nLive from the Warehouse is performed in English by Aryaman Krishna Aggarwal and Vrishab Wig. It’s presented by Joy Of Drama Stage Work in association with Mythologyworkshop UK. \nFollowing the 90-minute performance at 7.30pm on Thursday 9 July 2026\, I’ll chair a discussion with the Live from the Warehouse writer/director Shashwat Srivastava and the company. \nBook tickets for Live from the Warehouse + post-show Q&A

SUMMARY:Our Public House
DESCRIPTION:What if we could have a real discussion about politics in the pub – and be heard by people who could make a difference? Our Public House\, Barney Norris’ heart-warming play with music for Dash Arts\, comes to London’s Marylebone Theatre.  \n“Everyone knows what this country’s going through. All of us could tell a story of harm we’ve suffered”  \nIt’s local re-election time and MP Mary is buzzing. In the last round\, everyone spoiled their vote. They felt unheard and wanted to show those in power that they weren’t to be taken for granted. She’s not going to let that happen again. \nAs Mary joins people gathered together in the local pub\, conversations start. Jokes are thrown in. Ideals clash. There’s singing on tables! Love blossoms. And something starts to shift… \nThis funny and heartwarming play by award-winning playwright Barney Norris (whose credits include Sting musical The Last Ship) and director Josephine Burton is about what happens when your voices take centre stage and those with influence start to listen. \nTold through spoken English\, British Sign Language (BSL)\, Sign Supported English (SSE)\, creative captioning and original live music\, Our Public House brings together a cast of hearing and deaf performers: Kit Esuruoso\, Chaya Gupta\, Gabriella Leon\, Lauren Moakes\, Fergus O’ Donnell and Bharti Patel. \nFollowing the 7.30pm on Tuesday 30 June 2026\, I’ll talk to Our Public House‘s cast and creatives about the show’s development\, themes and touring journey. SUMMARY:Churchill's Urinal
DESCRIPTION:Arguably the country’s favourite MP online\, Rosie Holt brings her satirical politician (now the Chancellor) to the theatre in world premiere comedy Churchill’s Urinal\, directed by Daniel Clarkson at the King’s Head Theatre. \nFreshly installed in 11 Downing Street\, a fearless female Chancellor of the Exchequer is determined to get rid of the ancient urinal in her grace-and-favour en-suite. Intrigue overflows into outrage when it transpires that the porcelain was first tinkled on by that undying icon of Britishness\, Winston Churchill. \n “Tightly crafted and brutal political satire with Orwellian flourishes” – Evening Standard \nSoon\, the whole nation has a view on this storm in a pisspot. Join us for this rambunctious romp through the corridors of power and discover whether our fearless Chancellor’s grip on her Budget red box can survive the clamour for her Whitehall washroom to be awarded a Blue Plaque. \nKnown for her alter ego MP who has achieved more than seven million views with her online videos\, and toured two stage shows nationally\, satirist and Chortle award-winner Rosie Holt stars in the world premiere of her new play\, first seen in a reading at Shedinburgh last year. \n“Can Holt’s comedy career survive the advent of a Labour government? On this evidence\, you’d fancy her chances” – The Guardian \nChurchill’s Urinal is directed by Daniel Clarkson\, whose previous show starring Rosie Holt The Crown Live sold out at the King’s Head Theatre\, and whose other credits include Olivier Award nominees Potted Potter and Potted Panto\, as well as Biff To The Future\, which is currently on an extensive tour. \nMichael Lambourne\, who co-stars with Holt\, is the co-writer and co-star of the hit immersive staging of The Great Gatsby and his other credits include Stranger Things\, The Lost Lending Library\, The Railway Children and The Wind in the Willows. \nFollowing the 70-minute performance at 6pm on Sunday 24 May 2026\, I’ll talk to Rosie Holt\, Michael Lambourne and Daniel Clarkson about Churchill’s Urinal‘s comic and political journey to date. SUMMARY:An Adequate Abridgement of Boarding School Life as a Homo
DESCRIPTION:After success at the Edinburgh Fringe and a UK tour\, Ned Blackburn’s award-winning two-hander An Adequate Abridgment of Boarding School Life as a Homo transfers to London’s Riverside Studios for a limited run.  \n\nA reminder that\, amidst gay narratives\, there is a heart that beats and breaks just like the rest.\n\nMeet Johnny. 18-years-old and in his final year at an all-boys boarding school. A member of the 7ths rugby team\, Britney Spears mega fan and a flaming homosexual\, Johnny fails miserably to fit into the school’s (rather rigid) mould. \nEnter Harry\, the confident\, charming and really fit 1st team rugby captain. To save a lot of time and trepidation\, Johnny and Harry shag… they shag all the time. \nAn Adequate Abridgment of Boarding School Life as a Homo follows Johnny as he ambles through daily life\, from awkward PSHE lessons\, Grindr rendezvous and hook ups in the English block loos. This isn’t a coming out story\, or a gay tragedy. It is life through the lens of a young queer man\, stuck in an institution rife with hyper masculinity and shame. \nThis acclaimed new play is written by Ned Blackburn\, who also stars with Harvey Weed. It’s directed by Josh Stainer and Meg Bowron for Choir Boys Productions. \n★★★★★ “Taut\, funny\, emotional & searingly honest” – Scots Gay Arts \n★★★★ “Hits back at the boys-club mentality and toxic masculinity that continues unchecked into adulthood” – The Stage \n★★★★ “Comic\, candid & truly memorable\, this production is a must-see” – Culture Fix \nFollowing the 60-minute performance at 4.15pm on Sunday 3 May 2026\, I’ll talk to An Adequate Abridgment of Boarding School Life as a Homo‘s company about the show’s themes and journey to date. SUMMARY:Invisible Me
DESCRIPTION:Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools and Horses) stars in Invisible Me\, Bren Gosling’s comedy-drama about working-class Londoners who re-enter the world of dating later in life.  \n\nWhen sixty is just the beginning…\n\nLynn’s sex life more or less expired in 1987 – no memorial service\, not even a sympathy card. Now she rattles around the house she inherited from her mum. \nJack\, a newly widowed and HIV-positive gay man\, is hurled back onto the singles scene after 35 years. Armed with grief\, cautious optimism\, and a baffling array of dating apps\, he’s trying to figure out if there’s still room for romance. \nAnd then there’s Alec\, divorced\, estranged from his grown-up kids\, and still convinced he’s the same irresistible punk who could pull anyone with a grin back in ’82. Time\, however\, has other ideas. \n★★★★★ “An inspired message that resonates today” – Boyz Magazine \n★★★★ “Beautifully constructed reflection on ageing and the choices it offers” – Broadway World \nWhen all three Londoners stumble into unexpected encounters – yes\, with bedroom implications – their lives crack open in ways they never saw coming. A warm\, witty\, and big-hearted comedy-drama about romance\, second chances\, and discovering that it’s never too late to start again. Scott LeCrass directs James Holmes\, Kevin N Golding and Tessa Peake-Jones. \nFollowing the 7.30pm on Monday 13 April 2026\, I’ll talk to Invisible Me‘s cast and creatives about navigating life\, love\, and loneliness through theatre. SUMMARY:The Last Days of Liz Truss
DESCRIPTION:Liz Truss’ short-lived tenure in Downing Street inspired an award-winning one-woman play that promises to run and run. Following my Q&A last year at the White Bear\, I’m delighted to return to The Last Days of Liz Truss as it transfers to The Other Palace.  \nThe lettuce is back in No. 10! \nPrime Minister Liz Truss is navigating her last morning at Number 10. But can a fighter ever quit? \nAfter two critically acclaimed and sold-out runs at Kennington’s White Bear Theatre\, The Last Days of Liz Truss now transfers for strictly limited season at The Other Palace Studio\, with Emma Wilkinson Wright reprising the “standout” (Mark Lawson\, Guardian) performance which won her Best Actor at last year’s London Pub Theatres Awards. \n★★★★★ “A fascinating and entertaining production” – UK Theatre Web \n★★★★ “A biting\, ironic and deeply funny satire” – Plays to See \nA tragic-comic exploration of the tensions in politics between ambition and ability\, vision and reality\, going short and playing it long\, the play – written by Greg Wilkinson\, directed by Anthony Shrubsall and featuring Spitting Image’s Steve Nallon as the voice of Margaret Thatcher (and others) – also takes a much broader look at broken systems and the tensions and contradictions at the heart of British and global politics. \nFollowing the 7pm on Friday 6 March 2026\, I’ll talk to The Last Days of Liz Truss star Emma Wilkinson Wright about playing the former PM and the highs and lows of political theatre. SUMMARY:Ballad Lines
DESCRIPTION:Calling all fans of Hadestown\, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Once. Ballad Lines\, the soaring new folk musical by Finn Anderson and Tania Azevedo\, premieres at London’s Southwark Playhouse Elephant. \nA heart-opening musical about the stories we inherit — and the choices each generation makes to break\, reshape\, or carry them forward. \nA forgotten melody pulls Sarah\, a queer woman in New York\, into the lives of the women who came before her: Cait\, her 17th-century Scottish ancestor\, and Jean\, a spirited Irish teenager a century later. \nAcross three centuries\, they face the same defining question: what does it mean to become a mother — and at what cost? \nBlending Scottish\, Irish and Appalachian ballads with a bold contemporary score\, Ballad Lines weaves one family’s hopes\, sacrifices and songs across generations. \nFrom award-winning songwriter Finn Anderson (Islander and Streets) and acclaimed director Tania Azevedo (Mayflies and But I’m a Cheerleader)\, this is a musical for anyone who has ever wondered where they come from — and what they choose to pass on. \nThe cast features Frances McNamee\, Kirsty Findlay and Yna Tresvalles as Sarah\, Cait and Jean\, along with Rebecca Trehearn\, Sydney Sainte\, Ally Kennard\, Gracie Lia and Sian Louise Dowdalls. \nFollowing the 7pm performance on Thursday 12 February 2026\, I’ll chair a discussion with Ballad Lines cast and creatives. SUMMARY:The Rat Trap
DESCRIPTION:After the huge success of The Forsyte Saga\, now transferred to the RSC\, Troupe returns to Park Theatre with a centenary reimagining of Noel Coward’s first play\, marital comedy The Rat Trap. \n“When two brilliant egoists marry… there is bound to be trouble” \nIn fashionable 1920s Belgravia\, Sheila\, a talented novelist\, and Keld\, an aspiring playwright\, embark on married life. Both are fiercely ambitious\, but when Keld’s career takes off and Sheila’s doesn’t\, professional jealousy and an affair have a devastating effect on their marriage. \nStartlingly moving\, but full of customary sparkling wit and dark humour\, Noël Coward’s first play is given a stylish period revival for its centenary year. \nThe Rat Trap is lovingly revised by Bill Rosenfield and presented by Troupe\, who return to Park Theatre after its critically acclaimed production of The Forsyte Saga Parts 1 and 2. \nKirsty Patrick Ward directs Lily Nichol and Ewan Miller as Sheila and Keld\, alongside Daniel Abbott\, Gina Bramhill\, Zoe Goriely\, Ailsa Joy and Angela Sims. \nFollowing the 7.30pm performance of The Rat Trap on Thursday 5 February 2026\, I’ll talk to cast and creatives about this reim. SUMMARY:Jamless
DESCRIPTION:Jamless\, the debut play by Northern Spirit Theatre Company artistic director Nance Turner\, is a story of working-class resilience\, long-held grudges\, and the messy beauty of rebuilding broken bonds \nSet in a dusty attic… \nRo shows up in the middle of the night like a bad memory — all Chelsea boots\, borrowed poshness\, and secrets she’s still not ready to tell. Ginny’s got a frying pan in one hand\, a grudge in the other\, and no patience left. \nThey haven’t seen each other in five years. \nThe attic’s full of dust\, old boxes\, and things better left alone. But when Ro starts digging — literally and emotionally — the past starts kicking up more than just cobwebs. There’s a shoebox Ginny swore she’d never open. A letter hid under a trunk. And a voice note from a man Ro’s running from. \nJamless is about two working-class sisters trying to make sense of a house they never felt safe in\, a family that never made space for them\, and the cost of surviving when no one teaches you how. \nThere’s no jam. But there’s toast. And tea. And truth. \nFollowing the 70-minute performance at 7.30pm on Wednesday 5 November 2025\, I’ll chair a discussion with writer Nance Turner and the Jamless company. \nBook tickets for Jamless + post-show Q&A\n

SUMMARY:Jupiter's Ghost Origins
DESCRIPTION:Running at London’s Etcetera Theatre\, Jupiter’s Ghost Origins\, written and directed by Tani Gill\, is the much-anticipated prequel to last year’s sci-fi dance play Jupiter’s Ghost.  \nIn last year’s Jupiter’s Ghost\, Dr Elias Crete\, a scientist with a single-minded obsession\, will do anything to save his son Jove\, a feat he can only achieve by recreating humanity as it once was. Dr Elias Crete is fighting a losing battle against time to save that which is most dear to him. \nJupiter’s Ghost Origins was created in response to the high demand from reviewers and audience members who wanted to know the backstory behind its characters. \nThe new prequel dives into the heart of Dr Crete’s past. Grieving the loss of his epileptic daughter\, he is determined to transfer her consciousness into a new body. In his quest\, he recreates his soulmate Freya\, blending her DNA with AI to form “Mother.” \nBut as Dr Crete focuses on his daughter’s legacy\, he remains unaware that both Mother and the droid CAI harbor a hidden agenda. What secrets will be unveiled? \nWritten and directed by Tani Gill\, this unique prequel production is performed by Ronan Colfer as Dr Elias Crete\, Maisie Frater and Subhashree lyer. \nFollowing the 60-minute performance at 9pm on Monday 29 September 2025\, I’ll talk to writer-director Tani Gill and the Jupiter’s Ghost company about the show and its themes. SUMMARY:Eh up\, Me Old Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Before Lenny Henry and Gary Wilmot\, there was Charlie Williams. Eh Up\, Me Old Flowers\, Chris England’s acclaimed play about the pioneering black comedian\, gets its London premiere at the White Bear Theatre after the Edinburgh Fringe.  \nIn the 1970s the biggest comedy show on television was ITV’s The Comedians. It took bow-tie comics from the Northern club circuit\, put them on the screen for the very first time\, and made them into overnight sensations. And the breakout star\, the one who shone brightest of all\, was Charlie Williams. \nCharlie was the first black comedian to become a household name. With his toothy grin\, his infectious laugh\, and his incongruous thick South Yorkshire accent – ‘Tha’s right\, love\, right accent\, wrong colour!’ – he paved the way for many who followed in his footsteps\, such as Lenny Henry and Gary Wilmot. \nIt wasn’t only as an entertainer that Charlie was a pioneer who broke down barriers. He was one of the very few black professional footballers in the 1950s\, playing for Doncaster Rovers. He was the only black lad at his school near Barnsley\, and the only black lad down the mine when he left. \nPerhaps his material would nowadays be considered questionable. But perhaps if you had lived his extraordinary life in a white man’s world – coal miner\, footballer\, cabaret singer\, comedian – you’d have done the same. Now\, however\, in retirement\, Charlie faces an uncomfortable visit from a mysterious stranger who demands that he justify himself… \nEh Up\, Me Old Flowers is written and directed by Chris England (An Evening with Gary Lineker\, Breakfast With Jonny Wilkinson) and stars Tony Marshall as Charlie Williams and Nick Denning-Read. \nFollowing the 75-minute performance at 7.30pm on Friday 12 September 2025\, I’ll chair a discussion with the Eh Up\, Me Old Flowers writer/director Chris England and the cast. \nBook tickets for Eh Up\, Me Old Flowers! + post-show Q&A\n

SUMMARY:At Last
DESCRIPTION:Proforca Theatre is celebrating ten years with the return of one of its most explosive hits\, 2019’s dystopian thriller At Last\, running for ten performances only at London’s Lion & Unicorn Theatre. I can’t wait to revisit the play and its added relevance in 2025.  \nThe old world has fallen and something brave and new has taken its place. \nOut of the fire and rubble and the ashes something new is born. A chance to learn about the past and to discover who we were to save the future. A chance to find hope anew\, or to tear open wounds which will never close again. \nThis is the story of ten years of hate. Ten years of oppression and anger when we gave ourselves up to the dark. \nA story of the mother who fought for her broken sons\, and the father that stood in judgement. The daughter willing to pay the ultimate price for freedom\, the man who stood by and watched and the woman that listened. \nThis is the story of when the world went mad. \nIt is time to tell the truth. \nAt Last. \nPremiered at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre in 2019\, At Last is from the same company that brought you Feel\, Lately\, Flashbang\, The Shatter Box and\, earlier this year\, And If the Surface Tension Breaks. It’s co-written by James Lewis and Alexander Knott\, helmed by artistic director David Brady\, with associates Mark Conway and Jess Barton. \nFollowing the 7.30pm performance on Wednesday 3 September 2025\, I’ll chair a discussion with the At Last company about ten years of Proforca Theatre\, the creative process and the play’s new resonances since my original post-show Q&A during the premiere season in 2019. \n(NB: Contains strong language\, adult themes\, depictions and descriptions of torture and physical abuse.) \nBook tickets for At Last + post-show Q&A\n\nPraise for At Last\n★★★★★ “A stunning piece. SUMMARY:Four Play
DESCRIPTION:Jake Brunger’s acclaimed Four Play\, first seen starring Richard Madden and Jeremy Irvine at the Old Vic in 2015\, returns to the London stage in a major revival at the King’s Head Theatre. \n\n“There must be a part of you that’s curious\, right? About what it would be like?” \n\nRafe and Pete have the kind of relationship people envy. Seven years strong\, perfectly in sync… except for one little thing. Neither of them has ever been with anyone else. So\, when they hatch a plan to scratch their proverbial itch\, who better than mutual friend Michael – confident\, captivating\, and completely unprepared for the emotional entanglement he awakens. \nAfter all\, Michael does this…right? And his partner Andy knows… right? \nWhat begins as an intellectual experiment in sexual exploration quickly escalates into a chaotic web of emotional vulnerability\, betrayal\, and unanticipated desire. \n\n★★★★ “A tightly structured intelligent play that veers from laugh-out-loud comedy to thoughtful drama with real skill” – The Stage \n\nStarring Daniel Bravo\, Lewis Cornay\, Jo Foster and Zheng Xi Yong and directed by Jack Sain\, DEM Productions’ new revival of Jake Brunger’s provocative comedy interrogates the unspoken rules of modern relationships and the fragile balance between intimacy and freedom. \nFollowing the 6pm performance on Sunday 10 August 2025\, I’ll chair a discussion with Four Play‘s cast and creatives about how they have approached the play anew at its tenth anniversary. \nBook tickets for Four Play + post-show Q&A

SUMMARY:Echo
DESCRIPTION:Echo\, Susan Eva Haar’s timely and taut psychological thriller examining the ethics of reproductive technology\, comes to London’s King’s Head Theatre in a premiere production directed by Abigail Zealey Bess. \n\n“I wasn’t born. I was made.” \n\nAt a secluded B&B in upstate New York\, a couple arrives to celebrate their tenth anniversary. The room is romantic\, garish\, off-kilter. \nSo is she. Unstable\, sensual\, unpredictable—she wants something dangerous. He’s desperate to please her. But as champagne flows and erotic games escalate\, the night spirals into something darker\, more surreal… until a baby\, a blade\, and a secret crack everything open. \nTwenty years later\, another couple returns to the same room to scatter her mother’s ashes. But something lingers in the wallpaper\, in the fan’s rhythmic hum\, in the echoes of the past. She’s never been here before\, at least not this version of her… \nIn this “downright compelling” (Scotsman) psychological thriller starring Amara Okereke and Kyle Rowe\, the ethics of reproductive technology\, the performance of intimacy\, and the terrifying beauty of being made are thrust under the microscope for all to see. \nFollowing the 2pm matinee on Sunday 20 July 2025\, I’ll chair a discussion with Echo writer Susan Eve Haar and director Abigail Zealey Bess about bringing the story’s thrills and chills to the stage. \nBook tickets for Echo + post-show Q&A

SUMMARY:Cul-de-Sac
DESCRIPTION:Suburban life\, unfiltered: David Shopland’s new play Cul-de-Sac\, premiering at London’s Omnibus Theatre\, is a wine-stained comedy-drama about the chaos behind closed doors. \n“It feels like things are getting faster\, faster. Like culture\, society\, whatever is this roundabout in the middle of a park\, and it’s spinning faster and faster and we’re all just trying to jump on at the right time. And if we miss the landing\, that’s it. It’s over.” \nNorthwood Hills. Zone 6 London. The Middle of Nowhere. \nRuth is questioning every decision she’s ever made. Simon is grappling with a personality he can’t quite define. Marie is keeping a secret that could shatter everything. And Frank? Frank just wants his driveway back. \nWhat starts as a quiet evening rapidly unravels as polite smiles give way to sharp words\, truths spill as freely as the booze\, and when an unexpected guest arrives\, the night explodes into chaos. It’s suburbia like you’ve never seen it before. \nWhatsOnStage and multi Off-West End “Offies” Award nominated playwright David Shopland dissects contemporary Britain with the precision of a scalpel and the unpredictability of a slammed door; peeling back the layers of Millennial civility with unflinching honesty. \nTackling everything from cultural identity to the ever-increasing price of a London pint\, Cul-de-Sac is a witty wine-soaked post-mortem on the quiet desperation simmering behind net curtains\, starring Shereen Roushbaiani\, Ellis J Wells\, Lucy Farrett\, Callum Patrick Hughes and Behkam Salehani. \nFollowing the 4pm matinee on Sunday 1 June 2025\, I’ll talk to David Shopland and the Cul-de-Sac cast about the comedy-drama and what it says about contemporary Britain. SUMMARY:Faygele
DESCRIPTION:What is the power of a single word when it comes to faith and family? Faygele\, a story of adolescent survival\, gets its world premiere at London’s Marylebone Theatre.   \nFay-ge-le/feigala/noun. (Origin – Yiddish)\n(derogatory) Slang for faggot \nSome words bind us. Some words set us free. \nAt 13\, Ari Freed’s world is upended in an instant when\, at his Bar Mitzvah celebration\, his father strikes him down with a single word: Faygele. The sting fractures his already delicate sense of self\, forcing him into a battle he never asked for. \nFaygele is a story of survival in the space between faith and identity\, love and duty\, past and future – unraveling the complexities of Ari’s adolescence and the relationships that shape him. \nIlan Galkoff (Backstairs Billy)\, Ben Caplan (A Sherlock Carol)\, Clara Francis (Leopoldstad)\, Andrew Paul (The Bill) and Yiftach Mizrahi (Band of Spies) star in the world premiere of  Faygele \, written by Shimmy Braun. \nDirector Hannah Chissick commented: \n”I am delighted to be directing Faygele. Coming from a Jewish background myself\, it is especially thrilling to be bringing this world premiere\, from the unique voice of Shimmy Braun\, to the stage. Whilst rooted firmly in the Orthodox Jewish community\, the play is ultimately about self-acceptance. And\, whilst it has a queer character at its centre\, it will also resonate with anyone who has found themselves at odds with their upbringing or marginalised within their own community.” \nFollowing the 90-minute performance at 7.30pm on Monday 12 May 2025\, I’ll chair a discussion with the Faygele company about the play\, its themes and cultural significance. \n(NB: Age recommendation 14+.) \nBook tickets for Faygele + post-show Q&A

SUMMARY:The Psychiatrist
DESCRIPTION:Who does a psychiatrist turn to when he needs help himself? The Psychiatrist\, written by and co-starring Julian Bird based on personal experience\, premieres at London’s White Bear Theatre.  \nAfter working as a psychiatrist and physician for 40 years\, Julian Bird started acting in his sixties. He now takes the title role in his self-penned new two-hander The Psychiatrist. \nThe play is based on real events and portrays a psychiatrist’s struggle with poor resources\, whilst trying to achieve a better life for his patients. Troubling events and losses in the psychiatrist’s personal life lead him to seek help from a psychotherapist while he continues his work. \nIn alternating scenes\, he is shown as a patient and as a therapist. \nFollowing his career in psychiatry\, Bird trained as an actor at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. His TV credits include East Enders and The Tudors for the BBC. He received critical acclaim for his role as Sigmund Freud in Freud’s Last Session at the King’s Head in 2022. \nBird commented: \n“From my own experience I am well aware that at times of stress the mental health of psychiatrists can be a critical factor in the treatment of their patients. Audiences will get a realistic feel for the tensions\, frustrations and dangers of working with inadequate resources and a fascinating insight into the mental health problems of a psychiatrist.” \nKenneth Michaels directs Bird and co-star Stephanie Okoye. The world premiere production is presented at the White Bear Theatre by Alistair Brown. \nFollowing the 7.45pm performance on Thursday 10 April 2025\, I’ll talk to The Psychiatrist writer and star Julian Bird and other members of the team. SUMMARY:The Last Days of Liz Truss
DESCRIPTION:Liz Truss’ tenure in Downing Street may have been short-lived\, but it has inspired a hit one-woman play that keeps on running. The Last Days of Liz Truss is back by popular demand at the White Bear Theatre\, with more dates now added.  \nThe lettuce is back in No. 10! \nPrime Minister Liz Truss is navigating her last morning at Number 10. But can a fighter ever quit? \nThe Last Days of Liz Truss garnered five-star reviews and an “outstanding” from the Guardian’s Mark Lawson during its sold-out premiere in December. \n★★★★★ “A fascinating and entertaining production” – UK Theatre Web \n★★★★ “A biting\, ironic and deeply funny satire that deftly captures the contradictions at the heart of British Politics” – Plays to See \nNow this highly topical play by BBC Writers Room Award-nominated writer Greg Wilkinson – performed by Emma Wilkinson Wright as Liz\, directed by Anthony Shrubsall and featuring Spitting Image’s Steve Nallon as the voice of Margaret Thatcher (and others) – is back and is an absolute must-see. \nA tragic-comic exploration of the tensions in politics between ambition and ability\, vision and reality\, going short and playing it long\, the play also takes a much broader look at broken systems and the tensions and contradictions at the heart of British and global politics. \nFollowing the 90-minute performance at 7.30pm on Friday 4 April 2025\, I’ll talk to The Last Days of Liz Truss company about the show and the highs and lows of political theatre.
