When you find ‘the one’, can you ever know how long you have? Will your time together be long or short? What will be the first and last thing you remember about it? Could you bear forgetting it entirely?

In Michael Batten‘s acclaimed new play Remembrance Monday, ideal husbands Julius and Connor are young, gorgeous and madly in love. But when flickering moments and distorted memories trap Julius in the replay of a singular Monday night, reality bends, leading them both into the haunting grip of some terrifying truths.

Their rollercoaster – and often heart-grippingly poignant – love story is played out in-the-round in this world premiere at Seven Dials Playhouse, a massive bathtub front and centre for both the 80-minute performance – and my post-show discussion with (left-right) writer Michael Batten, director Alan Souza, and co-stars Nick Hayes (Julius) and Matthew Stathers (Connor).

The “A-game” production features set design by Andrew Exeter, lighting by Jack Weir, sound by Sarah Weltman, costumes by Renzo Allen and movement by Dianté Lodge.

Remembrance Monday continues at London’s Seven Dials Playhouse until 1 June 2024.
