The Last Days of Liz Truss? post-show Q&A at the White Bear Theatre

The Last Days of Liz Truss? post-show Q&A at the White Bear Theatre

In 2022, the Daily Star‘s lettuce famously outlasted Liz Truss’ 49-day tenure as Prime Minister. But – breaking news – in 2025 at the White Bear Theatre, Emma Wilkinson Wright, playing the erstwhile MP for South West Norfolk, easily outperformed the prop iceberg in Oxia Theatre’s hit, The Last Days of Liz Truss?.

Premiered in December, the one-woman tragi-comedy, written by Emma’s husband Greg Wilkinson, returned by popular demand for an additional fortnight, with a futher extra week’s performances added.

Following the final – for now – performance on Friday 4 April 2025, I chaired a post-show with Emma and Greg, as well as (left-right) director Anthony Shrubsall, associate producer Sarah Lawrie, and Spitting Image impressionist Steve Nallon, who recorded Margaret Thatcher and dozens of other voices with whom Truss interacts. (The Wrights’ daughter Effie – and the lettuce – joined us for the group photo.)

The Last Days of Liz Truss? begins on Truss last morning at Number 10, as she recounts her rise and fall and the lessons learned – or not learned – along the way.

How far can stubborn bloody-mindedness get you? Does a fighter ever quit? What are the tensions between ambition and ability, vision and reality, going short and playing it long? And what does Truss’ cautionary tale – to date – tell us about the broken systems contradictions at the heart of British and global politics.

The question mark in the title is no accident. Like Truss herself, who has unleashed her inner MAGA post mini-Budget, this now-ended White Bear run won’t be the last we see of The Last Days of Liz Truss?.
